Joanne West Design

The West Australian

My wife Joanne West Cornish is an accomplished artist with a great touch of whimsy. Check out her animal-theme chairs and other delights.

While working full-time for The West Australian for a total of 21 years, I had many opportunities to travel, reflect and meet people ranging from Premiers to actors, from cricketers to concert pianists.

Stephen Scourfield

Paul Costello

Stephen Scourfield, author, journalist and travel editor, is a great encouragement to me. I am proud of our strong personal and professional relationship.

“Have you heard of this new group called The Beatles,” I asked my friend Paul Costello. That is how far we go back. In fact we met at school in 1959 when we were 11. He wrote excellent essays even then, and over the last decade he has developed his passion for writing in many other ways.

Australian Dictionary of Biography

Ken Follett

Prominent historical figures are paid tribute in this dictionary. As Chair of the WA Working Party I enjoy working with the cream of the State’s historians.

Ken and I were cub reporters together on the South Wales Echo, Cardiff, in the early 1970s. He has gone on to be a best-selling author and I have interviewed him twice during his promotion tours. However, we are still great mates and always enjoy chats both about the old days and our current lives.

Dianne West Short

Texas writer Dianne West Short has a wonderful gift for anecdote . . . often drawn from her many loving and sympathetic associations with dogs who could use some care. Dianne writes about people too. You won’t forget Ashes to Ashes, in her 2011 list.
