Paying tribute

Writing obituaries was possibly the most rewarding part of my full-time newspaper career. I still write them, on a freelance basis, and co-authored an anthology in 2016.

The book, Encore, amounted to a reprise of sharing tributes with the reader. My fellow obituarist, David Hough, and I were happy to publish a total of 50 - 25 by each of us, chosen from those we wrote for The West Australian between 2000 and 2016.

Master of Arts

I am available to edit academic theses and dissertations.

My own thesis for a Master of Arts, awarded by the University of Western Australia in 1980, was titled Heart of Apartness. It is by far the longest piece of writing I have ever accomplished.

The subject was misfits – human alienation, as treated by four novelists who set works in Africa.
